Most of these were taken with a macro lens. Animals and insects are one of my favourite to photograph because unlike a landscape or a night shot, you will never get the same image twice. Unless it's dead like the 'Cicada on the Rocks' picture.

A Green Grosser Cicada perches on a dried out branch while i took my time to snap a few pics.

Okay, so you’re probably wondering how I got it to stay still so long. The answer is it's dead.

I found him on the top of a mountain trail in Port Stephens.

I spent the best part of 10 minutes rolling around on the ground trying to get a shot of it's face. This was the best i could get.

The name of the place that i took this in escapes me.

Not a very imaginative name, i know. These two busy bees were caught buzzing about my neighbours tree.

The bird perches on the log glamorously as it shows me its good side. This red Rosella was spotted only meters from our campsite in Wilson's Prom

This particular pond in the rocks of the Bay of Fires proved to be home to a colourful array of miniature starfish. Thank god for polarising lenses.

Location is Bimbi National Park, known for it's abundance of koalas that can be seen in the trees above the campsites. This one was sitting in between two dividing trunks when I saw him (or her).
